
Deepsea Aberdeen is of the enhanced GVA7500 harsh environment design and will be a sister rig to the Deepsea Atlantic and Deepsea Stavanger previously delivered from DSME.
The semisubmersible will be delivered from the yard in May 2014 and will subsequently start drilling operations under a 7-year contract with BP in UK.
The new state of the art sixth generation rig is under construction at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME)in South Korea. Upon rig delivery, the Deepsea Aberdeen will embark on a three months voyage from South Korea to its final destination - West of Shetland.
The new unit will be involved in drilling in the Schiehallion and Loyal fields and will form a key part of the Quad 204* development. The full contract, which is subject to approval by the Quad 204 Partnership, will have a fixed duration of 7 years and is due to start in Q4 2014.
The Deepsea Aberdeen will drill and complete more than 25 wells between 2014 and 2022.
The rig will be operated from Odfjell Drilling's UK office in Aberdeen.
