On 8 July 2010, Deepsea Stavanger was handed over from the DSME yard to Odfjell Invest.
The Deepsea Stavanger project took only 20 months from steel cutting to delivery and both the yard and Odfjell Drilling is proud of completing such a project on record time.
Odfjell Drilling has signed a contract with one of Ophir Energy plc’s operating subsidiaries for the use of Deepsea Stavanger.
"The delivery by the DSME shipyard is an important milestone in this project. As a result of excellent cooperation with DSME shipyard, we have again succeeded in building a drilling rig of high quality” - says Ketil Lenning, CEO of Odfjell Drilling.
Deepsea Stavanger and Deepsea Atlantic are designed for both ultra-deep waters and for the most demanding environments. They are built in accordance with Norwegian regulations and are equipped with the best available technology in terms of crew safety, environmental considerations and efficient drilling operations.
Building the Deepsea Stavanger is part of the company's fleet renewal strategy. Its sister rig Deepsea Atlantic was delivered from DSME in February 2009. In addition, Odfjell Drilling has, in cooperation with Metrostar, two drillships under construction in South Korea for delivery in 2011.
