Deepsea Stavanger - put to the test

During sea trials the rig was put on a Full Performance Test! All equipment was simultaneously run to its full capacity. Peak power was reached and the rigs great capabilities were shown off.

Sea trials for Deepsea Stavanger was completed in May at the test field some 15 Nautical miles from the DSME yard and 30 Nautical miles from Busan. A tight schedule was prepared and included testing of most systems on the rig.

Full performance test
One of the highlights was the full performance test. This is a scenario the DSS will probably never experience again in her lifetime. During 24 hours almost all equipment onboard was simultaneously run to its full capacity. DSS has diesel generators that can produce a maximum of 44Mw of power (60 000 HP), enough to supply the energy needs of 20 000 households.

During the full performance test, the rig reached a peak power usage of massive 43,5Mw (98,8% of capacity).

BOP testing
Before DSS returned to yard Odfjell Drilling and NOV were successfully running the BOP and testing the BOP handling equipment and DSS is now receiving final works at DSME yard.
