Deepsea Metro I commenced drilling campaign in Tanzania

The Deepsea Metro I has commenced its drilling programme for BG Group in Tanzania.

The contract with BG has a firm duration of 365 days with 3x6 months options and a contract value of approximately 175 million USD including mobilization and net taxes, excluding options.

The first three wells in the programme will be Jodari-1, Mzia-1 (previously named 1W) and Papa-1 (previously named 3A).

Deepsea Stavanger completed a successful deepwater programme in the same area for Ophir Energy in 2011 with BG as partners. DSS is now operating for BP in Angola on a  long term contract.

The Metro I is a state-of-the-art drillship capable of drilling in water depths of up to 3,000m. The rig has a dual derrick with a main work centre and an auxiliary work centre to facilitate a number of simultaneous operations. Both work centres are equipped for drilling. The Metro I was built at the Hyundai Heavy Industries yard in Ulsan, South Korea and a detailed series of acceptance tests have been performed ahead of mobilisation to Tanzania.

The Metrostar Group retain 60 percent ownership in Deepsea MetroI & II. Odfjell Drilling has a 40 percent ownership in the vessels and are responsible for the construction supervision, marketing and operation of the vessels.
