Odfjell Drilling is a privately-owned international drilling, well service and engineering company with 3000 employees. Odfjell Drilling was founded in 1973 but the maritime roots go back to 1914 and the petroleum engagement back to the mid sixties. The Company has been involved in international drilling operations since the early seventies and has since carried out drilling operations in the North Sea and worldwide for nearly four decades.
Odfjell Drilling owns and operates mobile offshore units in addition to being a major supplier of personnel for drilling operations and maintenance on fixed and floating production platforms in the North Sea.The company provides comprehensive engineering services to petroleum operations in Norway and internationally, and has a substantial market position in well services.
Worldwide experience
We have worldwide experience from the operation of semisubmersibles, drillships, jackups and modular drilling units and currently owns and operates several semisubmersibles in the North Sea.
Constructing two new ultra deep water rigs
Odfjell Drilling is the majority owner and manager of Odfjell Invest Ltd that delivered the new sixth generation and harsh environment deepwater semisubmersible, Deepsea Atlantic in 2009. Deepsea Atlantic commenced its operations with StatoilHydro in August 2009
Its sister rig Deepsea Stavanger is under construction in South Korea with delivery June 2010.
Two ultra deepwater drillships in 2011
In cooperation with the shipping company Metrostar, Odfjell Drilling has two drillships under construction at the Hyundai heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard in South Korea for delivery in 2011.

Through our business unit Odfjell Drilling Technology we are a leading provider of project management and engineering services. Odfjell Well Services is a major North Sea player and a global provider of casing services and tool rentals.
Extensive new build program
Odfjell Drilling has an extensive new build programme which includes:
- Two sixth-generations ultra deepwater drilling rigs built at DSME in South Korea
- Two sixth-generation ultra deepwater drillships built at HHI in South Korea
Green rig concept
The Deepsea Atlantic and Deepsea Stavanger are designed for the most demanding areas in terms of climate and for environmentally sensitive areas. A maximum focus on zero discharges, low emissions and electrical solutions to reduce onboard oil volumes and associated pollution risks. Separate drain systems have been installed and no drain water is discharged.
Onshore Support Centre and Real Time Collaboration
Odfjell Drilling operate our rigs from Onshore Support Centres in order to enhance offshore – onshore collaboration. Odfjell Drilling puts offshore hands-on experience to work, combining onshore engineering and planning skills in an efficient integrated operations system.
